Don’t Judge Me!

from Google

I walked around my house judging them. All of them. I laughed. Oh, how I laughed at my whole family. As the news stories of people filled my newsfeed on social media, then made national news, local news, and even showed up on my favorite show @midnight, I mocked them all…those silly Pokemon Go players.

And then it happened. Everything fell into place for me to succumb to its sickening grasp! I came home from work with a migraine. My immunity against the pull of the game lowered. Then, the power went out, leaving us with no air conditioning in the middle of a heat wave…but lots of data on our phones left to burn and plenty of gas in my car and its glorious A/C! (Turns out, it doesn’t use as much data as I thought - the game...not the A/C)

It wasn’t long before the curiosity set in. What were my children playing? What battle at the park? What the heck is a Charmander? Maybe I’ll just download it and take a quick peek. Two and a half hours later an alert came over my phone that the power had been restored at my house, but I quickly dismissed it. I was too close to getting to level five. No way we were leaving the gym now. Not when I could join Team Valor! Not when I could be just like everyone else I had been judging the last few weeks.

This damn game.

Hey, did I mention I’ve been playing for less than a week and I’m almost a level eight? No, I’m not enjoying it at all. Not one bit.

This damn game.

Are you playing?

TEAM VALOR FOR LIFE (or until I'm bored of the game)

  1. I guess resistance is futile. Just don't wander into traffic or off a cliff.

    1. I'll do my best but I make no guarantees. I'm having a hard time not being a distracted walker.

    1. I can only imagine, Brian. I feel for you! My husband and I were talking about how well they timed the release of the game because had they released it any later, it would've been a nightmare for teachers! It still may be with it's popularity.

  3. Hi Elise - thank goodness I don't get hooked in is all I can say ... take care - but simply not my cup of tea. Some kids were playing and walked straight into the sea here ... they needed rescuing by the Life Boat - thankfully it hadn't got to that point ... but if it had and one had slipped and been sucked into the water ... definitely not so funny ...

Take care (again!) ... cheers Hilary

    1. I don't understand how people can be so distracted by their phones. That's so frightening! There is a big warning when you open up the game that tells you to be aware of your surroundings at all times, they give you plenty of time to look around so you're not walking into walls or traffic, or people, so I don't understand how people are getting hurt. It's so sad. Be well!

  4. LOL funny post. I don't play but I could totally see myself doing the same thing if (God forbid) my power went out and I lost my AC. I'd jump at any excuse to be in the car with the AC blaring. Have fun! :)

    1. We are having so much fun. I was the last holdout in my family. The rest of them had been playing since the day it was released, so I resisted for quite some time. Mostly because I feared it would eat up data. Not so much. It really is a blast :)

    1. Same here. I have to be careful not to get too invested in it and to put it down when I'm in the car so I'm not being reckless.

  6. lol you will be assimilated.

I'd much rather play the actual DS games. But hey, it gets people out and actually exercising, so there is that. Just don't go running into anything, that one eye makes it hard to focus, you know haha

    1. Yeah, I have to admit, I'm walking more...eww, gross. haha After that time in the car, I actually got off my rear and walked around in the (hot) fresh air. We have a park full of Poke Stops! Yeah, gotta be careful my poor one eye doesn't get damaged, gotta be able to battle!!

  9. Ha! I didn't make any judgments since my coworker told me about the game when he got in on the beta and how he, his wife, his two kids, and his mother-in-law played as a family. I figured that was just as good as a board-game night, and I try to encourage family time. I abstained for a while since I don't particularly enjoy games and would rather write via my phone than play a game. But I saw it as an opportunity for my 5yo, so I joined. My husband is an addicted computer gamer and has started encouraging her to sit down with a keyboard an mouse. I figured if she's going to be a gamer like her daddy, I can at least get her out of the house. Now I let her catch Pokemon and hit up Pokestops while I drive the car or push the stroller. It's so cute to hear her say, "I got one!" or "Look! This egg is about to hatch!" or "Man, this one is hard to catch." BTW, she chose Team Mystic. ;)

    1. This made me laugh. To think, I'm rivals with a five year old :) Team Valor!!

That's what I love about this game! I see a dad and his two kids up at the park every single day; they have their phones out and they're laughing and playing the game. It's so much fun to watch them interact with each other AND play the game together. We also go to a local town park where there a ton of Poke Stops and strangers are hanging out with each other too. I think it's so cool. People of all ages are there, not just teenagers, but I've seen everyone from little kids to the elderly. Good, clean, fun.

    1. I wondered if this will happen to me or not. I've been playing less than a week so I'm not sure if I'll burn out on it yet, but right not, it's a total blast with the hubby and kids. I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts! Hmm, Pokemon Y...do I dare investigate? I better not.

    1. haha, I know what you mean about Facebook. I'm not on as much as I used to be because of all the crap I see about politics. After the election is over, I'll be back when the sore losers are done griping.

  14. Oh oh.....you have become a Pokebie....zombies worshipping Pokeman:) I don't quite get the game but as someone told me, people are walking and getting outside so this is not so bad.

    1. I love that, a Pokebie :) Yep, that's me. A total Pokebie! I embrace it fully. I didn't get the game at all either, still don't actually, but I'm learning. My kids are like, how can you be a level twelve and not know how to do this or that, and I'm like, "I have no idea but this is a ton of fun!" haha

  15. No! You didn't? Say it ain't so!

You are now one of "those people" and now you're being judged and ridiculed.

I have a theory on that game. Though I don't mention it in my new post, it kinda goes along with what I'm talking about.

    1. Oh, it's so, Dan, it's so. I'm one of them now. I've fallen into the wretched trap of Pokemon and I'm loving every minute of it.

Wait, do I need to put my glasses on...hang on...yep, that says you posted, headed over now. Can't wait to see what you have to say. I'm going with politics. Or grilling. Never can tell with you, Dan.

  20. TEAM MYSTIC HERE! HOLLAA!!! LOL

I got my manager into it and he took away my access to the warehouse so he could keep all the pokemon to himself. Is that the thanks I get for introducing him to the funnest game ever?!

    1. No! Not team Mystic! My kids are out playing now. Representing Team Valor in red as we speak. :)

I think your manager is hysterical. I could see people at work doing that to me too...if I could just get them to play. They refuse. But I won't give up that easily!
