I Needed A Laugh

Sometimes life throws us a few curveballs at once. Sometimes those curveballs hit us right upside our heads.
  • My migraines aren't going the way I hoped but I've got a backup plan so there's always hope.
  • Devin was letting his slips get inside his head but he's on a better track too.
  • I may have to face the fact that it's time to cut ties with certain family members and that hurts my heart. No optimistic twist on this one.
So to this I say: Sometimes all you can do is give life the middle finger and then laugh. That's what I choose to do this week. Let's laugh together, shall we?

I love me some Modern Family!

And who doesn't love Beverly Goldberg from The Goldbergs? She's hilarious!

Here's to a better week everyone!

  1. Not a fan of Modern Family but big fan of the Goldbergs! The writer has the 80's down pat.
Really sorry about the migraines for you and your daughter.
And while there may not seem to be a positive spin on cutting ties with family members, if it's better for your family in the long run, that is a positive.

    1. Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate them very much. Migraines for me I can handle but watching my daughter suffer…that's a whole 'nother ballgame.

I'm a true 80s girl and you're so right. Goldberg recalls it and tells it perfectly. I can't help but laugh. And then the videos of his family at the end - oh my gosh! Hilarious! It doesn't matter that I don't know his family, I'd pay money to watch those things just to see their clothes, hairstyles and home furnishings. The 80s were the best!

  2. I'm the opposite of Alex - love MF but not the Goldbergs! That 'life/lemonade' quote is one of my faves. Another fave was when Alex said to Haley, 'you have your fans, I have mine. Someday your fans will work for my fans'. Sorry you are having some bumps in the road. And I get it about the family member. I have a cousin with whom I was close who stopped talking to me b/c I didn't invite her to my wedding (I didn't invite anyone in my family, not even my mom. It was very small and none of Russell's family went either). So I guess she cut me out of her life and while it's sad, to be honest, she's not a nice person and not someone I'd ever choose as a friend. I guess it's a mutual cutting out at this point.

    1. They have some of the best lines/philosophies in Modern Family. Both shows make me laugh. I also look forward to Blackish. Another funny one. It's just sad about the family because it's technically not someone in "my" family but in my first husband's. But I can walk away knowing that I made sure my boys knew their everyone in their daddy's family. And who knows? Maybe it'll all work out. I won't give up just yet. There's always a glimmer of hope. A silver lining. I'm just sorry you can relate.

  3. I'm sorry you have so many challenges with family and health issues now. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. It beats crying about it.

Certain aspects of Modern Family unsettle me but the Goldbergs is a funny show.

    1. I'm all about laughing. When life hits me upside the head with crap, my dad always taught me to find the humor in it no matter how small or how hard it was to find. I'm grateful he did because life threw me so biggies. Goldbergs just cracks me up. Beverly is a trip.

  4. You know, I've actually never seen this show. But I keep hearing good things. If you like it, and we share the same sense of twisted humor, well, I may have to change that.

I'm e-mailing you soon. I've got some more laughs for you.

    1. I say give either one a try. It may help that I'm a mom and for the Goldbergs it helps that I'm a product of the 80s but you certainly don't have to be to appreciate the humor. It's just too funny. And thank you for the email. Gold, baby, gold!

  5. Sometimes everything sure does come at once and it can be a big pain in the ass. But have a little fun, let the finger fly and push on through. And look, you finally fit migraines into a post haha those things sure suck indeed

    1. Yeah, I did sneak in a couple of mentions about migraines but I just feel like I owe you so much more. Maybe I need to do an entire post about them. Too bad Dan wasn't blogging anymore. I know how much he loved reading about them. haha

  7. Troubles are like a vagabond family from the hills that set up shop next door. They come in a bunch, they make a mess, they impinge on your good humor... but they travel in a group, and when they leave, things get better. At least once the landlord re-cuts the grass, re-sides the house, and removes the filled dumpster. Hang in there!

    1. What a great reference! I love this! And you're so spot on. The move in, cause a ruckus and then move on and leave us to clean up in their wake. Which I will and I'll do it with a smile and a pretty decent attitude because there's no sense in getting all worked about it. That's going to accomplish nothing but making me miserable in the process. Thanks Chris. I appreciate it.

    1. I used to freak out when people flipped me off. Or, I was the one that did the flipping. Now, I just do like you. It's just not worth it to get so worked up. Especially while driving.

  10. I keep hearing great things about Modern Family, but I've only seen about 2 episodes. I need to get into it. Bravo to your new attitude! And I'm sorry to hear about those family members. Cutting ties are always difficult to do, but who's to say that they won't mend themselves sometime in the future. Best of luck! xo

    1. Jax, you would love Modern Family! It's awesome and because you're a mom, I think you can appreciate a lot of the story lines. Thanks for the kind words. They mean a ton. I'm not sure what to do about the family. I'm going to let them be and maybe they'll come back on their own. I've done what I can and that's all I can do.

  11. Laughter.
It helps deflects most of the curveballs that life throws at you.
    Works for me.

  12. Hi Elsie - I don't know either show ... but curve balls I hate - and yes they do happen with the elderly, I'm glad she is improving. Migraines must be very difficult to deal with ... I hope they can be solved, or eased. Good luck with the family and other issues ... laughing helps enormously ... definitely agree there - cheers and all the very best - Hilary

    1. I'm so happy she's on the mend too. As for the migraines, if I don't see improvement for the two of us over the course of the next few months it'll be on to a new specialist (or really back to my old one). But here's hoping to the local dude and saving me the drive up north every three months. *smiles"
