Appreciation Days - An IWSG Post

Appreciation Days

At work we have Appreciation Days. It’s my company’s way of saying thank you to the many people who make a difference in our communities. We offer free (first-time) tax preparation for teachers, firefighters, hospital workers, military members, and many other well deserving, hard-working people.

It made me reflect upon how much I appreciate all of you. Each month, people share their experiences, their doubts, their strength, and their successes with each other. This blogging community comes together to lift each other up and offers words of wisdom to those who are struggling. It reminds people they aren’t alone on those days we feel like things just won’t fall into place for us.

But, what really makes me appreciate everyone in this blogging community of ours is that the support doesn’t stop at writing. We help people who are dealing with health issues, family struggles, and the loss of a loved one. Everyone rallies together to offer their help in so many ways.

How awesome is that? (Cue the Lego Movie song Everything is Awesome!)

It also made me realize, yet again, just how lucky I am to have a kick ass mentor in Bryan. He’s been working with me for close to two years! Teaching me to write, edit, and fine-tune my work. And, he has the patience of a saint.

We really are blessed to have each other and be in this great community we call home. Let’s give ourselves a round of applause and a big cyber hug!

     We Rock!

This is an Insecure Writer Support Group post, come hang out with us!  It’s a time to talk about our fears and doubts, or inspire others by sharing our success and happiness.  We’ve got a great bunch of people in this group and we’d love to have you join in on the fun too.  A big thank you to it's creator, Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Don’t forget to stop by and say hello to our fantastic co-hosts: Chemist Ken,Suzanne Sapseed, and Shannon Lawrence!

  1. The support comes from so many, and not just writers. Most people here are willing to give and help others with no expectations or conditions. And that does rock.
You have an awesome mentor in Bryan.

    1. You're right, Alex. This community is so much more than writers. That's what helps make it so very awesome! I'm very blessed to have Bryan!

  2. We are really blessed. Without this community, many would be dealing with those issues alone.

    1. I love that my company offers all those free/discount returns too. Just such an awesome thing to do for people and let them know people really do appreciate their hard work and sacrifices.

  4. Everything (generous) is awesome, isn't it? Okay, now I have that song in my head, which is slightly less than awesome. I wonder why I waited so long to join IWSG. It's a blast.

    1. Welcome to the IWSG! We're so glad to have you! The downside to this post is that the song will be stuck in my head all day too. :)

  5. Wow, it's already been two years? How the time flies!

You know, one of the coolest things about blogging that I never even imagined happening (after all, we just created a blog to promote ourselves and tell random, stupid stories to the Internet) was making genuine friends. Friends who help each other without expecting anything in return. Who can complain to each other and console each other. Who won't strangle you for posting that stupid, stupid song that's stuck in my head now. :(

(You have an e-mail coming soon)

    1. You're welcome for the song. :)

Yeah, I checked my old, old, emails and it was close to two years ago when I sent out my little, "please, could you help me wade through writing a book" and your response immediately after. If you only knew then what you know now…bawahahaaa!! You'd be stuck with me for two long years!

So true, Bryan. I started my blog with the desire to vent, then chose to look at it differently and wanted to help others in the same place as me. (Who knew there would be others? Not me, not back then) And, eventually, I connected with so many people in so many different walks of life. It's amazing.

And awesome. Because everything is awesome, everything is cool when you're part of a team….

  6. What? You appreciate the cat? Damn it, I'm not doing my job. Need to come and take a crap on your doorstep, that will fix that lol

Yep, never would have imagined the blogging community was so great. I just started it to promote and rant away and then it morphed into this. Although newer bloggers seem to be all about self promotion and crap like that. To those the cat just ignores.

    1. Well, I wouldn't go that far, cat. I appreciate *almost* everyone in the blogging community. All but you.

I agree with you (oh no!), there are a lot more self promotors who don't seem to want to share that special connection…unless it leads to you buying their stuff. Sad, really.

  9. Yes! My three year old son used to sing this song. Sooo fantastically horribly that I had to hide my face to keep him from seeing me laugh at him. Best song ever. EVERYTHING IS AAAWESOME!!! Especially the online blogosphere support I keep running into. What a great group you have!

    1. I love that my company does that too, Jax. The owner of the company and the managers are all such generous people. I can't tell you how many returns they do for free or reduced fees because the people have a hard time making ends meet. It's awesome!

  17. Hello greetings and good wishes.

Blogging community has always been not only supportive but the wealth of information and knowledge that we get from fellow bloggers is mind boggling. We are truly blessed.

    Best wishes

  18. Here from Alex's blog. Better late than never, I say, LOL. I totally agree, ISWG is a great community. They've talked me off the ledge several times over the years. I really like your blog. You now have a new follower.(:

  19. The blogging community, especially the writers/authors, have been so kind to me. I haven't participated in the IWSG in quite a while, but I owe Alex and IWSG a huge thank you. I began blogging right when Alex started the IWSG and he and Matthew MacNish hosted another blogfest, but I can't remember the name of it. I remember that the goal was to introduce to introduce newer bloggers around and help us feel welcome. It was a hit and between that blogpost and IWSG, I quickly went from 2 to almost 100 followers in under a month.

I stopped by to visit your blog because Alex has honored you under his letter E post today. It's good to be here and I will check back soon to read more.

  20. Blogging is fun... and as you stated, things do get in the way from time to time... I've been dealing with some health issues... and employment issues... that seem to be a problem right now... things are going to work out.

I trust all is ok with you!!

    Bryan is awesome.

  22. You said it so well and it is true. I look forward to everyone's postings...now I must get that song out of my head:)

  23. I don't think I ever got into the blog community the way you did. In a sense I kinda wish I had, but only because I know how well online communities in general can go. And Bryan as a mentor? All the poor Karate Kid had was Mr Miyagi. It's unfair! Bet he's got you waxing on and off while you type.

I like taking a day to thank the people who've helped me. I used to do it in blog form, but this isn't really 'my' community anymore. I'm still thankful, and there's a few people I try and keep mentioning that to. BUT DON'T THINK I'VE EVER TOLD YOU SO!

Thank you so much for your support, Elsie. Even when I'm completely lost from the blogosphere, you make a little time. Little things count, I notice. You're awesome.
