Treat Yo Self!

I am a fairly new subscriber to Netflix and I’ve fallen in love with it.  I don’t know why I was so resistant to signing up for so long.  I’m saving a ton of money by getting rid of premium channels once Directv ends my promotions next month.

My son recommended I watch Parks and Recreation and I’m so glad he did.  It started out a bit slow but once it picked up, it had me rolling.  Two of the characters reminded me of something very important.  They reminded me to Treat Yo Self!

This is something I am quick to tell other people yet I neglect to follow my own advice. I feel it’s important for everyone to take some time throughout the week and be kind to themselves.  Sometimes I think it’s okay to be a little selfish.  This way when things get a bit stressful, you’ll be in a good place mentally.

I had been so busy with other things I’d forgotten about me.  I love to visit the beach and I’ve only been once in the past three weeks.  I enjoy reading quietly in my comfy, leather chair but that’s also been abandoned. Another favorite luxury is a warm bubble bath and I can’t remember the last time I’ve soaked in the tub.

For someone like me, a person working on her recovery, I need to remember how important self-care truly is to my mental state. I never know what may be headed my way.  I just know I need to remember:

Treat Yo Self!

  1. Everyone is into Netflix and I haven't tried it b/c I just can't stand watching stuff on my laptop and we don't have a gaming system for the TV. I wish I could get rid of Comcast/Xfinity b/c despite hundreds of channels, nothing's ever on. Glad you are taking the time to treat yourself!

    1. That's how I feel about all the channels I have - nothing is ever on! So many channels, so much garbage. Devin got me a Kinnect for Christmas so I use that to access the Netflix. It's been so very awesome =)

  2. Definitely gotta take care of yourself. And, girl, get in the tub! And take a good a book with you, too. Luxury. :)

    1. Such a great suggestion! Take a book, soak in the tub. Two things I enjoy. Perfect! I just need to make sure I don't get so relaxed I don't drop the book in the tub. ha ha =P

  3. Well you need to have a nice warm bath and rectify that. I know how you feel though. I treat myself now more than I ever did before but there are still some things I won't buy for myself. These days it is more a matter of money though and not an unwillingness to buy things for myself. As for Netflix, it is pretty great but our service is crippled and has a lot less shows than you guys. So that's kinda sad.

    1. I plan on taking a warm bath tonight. I'm going to add lots of bubbles and some epsom salts too. It's gonna rock! Well, it's gonna be serene ha ha! I'm so glad to hear you're treating yourself, Mark. You truly deserve it. I hear ya on the money issue. I like to go to the beach, that's where I find my true happiness. I didn't know Netflix would be different in other areas. How strange.

    1. Right now, I'm reading World War Z. I want to finish it before the movie comes out. I see your baking all the time and I'm super impressed! You find the best recipes. I understand about the kids being old and still arguing. My kids don't fight but they play like they are ten instead of 20 and 21. I just shake my head =P Many hugs!!

    1. Oh my gosh! Aziz is hilarious! He's my son's favorite character along with Rob Lowe. Rob Lowe's cadence is too funny - "literally"

    2. I know! He makes you believe it when he says "literally," too. It's literally amazing!

    3. Ha ha - I just heard his voice in my head!

I'm a big fan of Ron Swanson. He cracks me up.

    4. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take one thing, what would it be?
      Silence...

Face it, no matter which character you mention, the response is going to be, "Oh, yeah! I love him/her!"

  7. Self care is the most important - you have yourself before anybody else (not counting ones kids).

  9. Not into Netflix as I'm not a movie nut, I prefer to read books, listen to music and watch racing cars... pauses to watch replay of a Caterham lock up in Free Practice for Canadian GP!

However the point is true - you need to be kind and good to yourself before you can go any of that with anyone else.

    1. I love to read too. It allows me to escape into another world for a bit. Not so much into racing but I love NFL football!!

I find when I'm good to myself, I'm better to others too.

  10. I've been so tempted to watch Netflix even if it's just to get the television shows that they offer, it's a great concept! You're right too, it's important to treat ourselves but sometimes it just doesn't cross our minds I guess, I'm the same as you Elsie in that respect.

    1. I've been able to share some great old shows with my daughter too. Lot's of fun. It's funny how being kind to ourselves doesn't cross our minds as quickly as being kind to others does.

    1. Ah, yes, I just layabout and do nothing all day long. You know me so well, you wretched cat!! I wonder why your Netflix sucks so bad? Glad you can get the American one though.

  12. I try to treat myself as much as I can. For instance, each birthday, I treat myself to a physical. Then, once I can walk again (I did say it was a physical, right?), I treat myself to a couple of donuts.

    1. My hubby will be treating himself to that exact same physical this year. Lucky him. I'll be sure to get him some doughnuts after his exam to perk him back up!

  13. We are long time NetFlixers. Love it. And we also watch YouTube through the 360 on the TV, as well as NetFlix. Both are great. So great, that we've had no need to pay for cable.

    Glad you're enjoying your treat.

    1. I can see the ability to drop channels. If I wasn't so spoiled by so many shows, I'd do the same. Who knows...there may come a time when Directv gets dropped all together!

  14. I tend to spend a lot of time thinking that I've thought about myself. A month will go by and I'll look back at it and wonder what I enjoyed.

I mean, I've got my blog. I enjoy every minute of that. But sometimes it's like woah. I should go on an adventure or something.

    1. It really does fly by. I tell myself I'm going to do something just for me but instead I dedicate time to the kids or other people. I also have my blog and I love it to pieces but I also want something a bit more.

  15. oh i hear you...we can be pretty rough on ourselves...and neglect ourselves as well in taking care of others, creating a martyr of ourselves....we really need something new to watch...summer tv sucks...

  17. I love my Netflix, it's so inexpensive and they have a good collection of shows from the UK and from Ireland.

Now get to the beach and relax woman!

    1. It really is so cheap. I couldn't believe it. I saw that Redbox is doing beta testing on streaming now too. Except I didn't see they had any television shows available yet. I noticed several shows from the UK but didn't see any from Ireland yet.

I plan on heading to the beach just as soon as the weather clears =)

  18. The second I saw this title I said it in Donna's voice and was hoping that was what you were referring to. I was not disappointed. The wife and I always say this to each other when we get something special.

Once it really got into its stride, Parks and Rec has definitely become one of my favorite shows, up there with Community. Also recommended if you haven't seen it, and also takes a few episodes to truly get good, but then gets really, really damn good.

    1. I said it the other day when I was shopping and saw something I liked. It's funny how some lines in a show just stick with you.

I searched for Community on Netflix and they don't have it yet. Hopefully, they will get it soon. I decided to start watching Breaking Bad instead. I heard it was really good.
